English author, humanist, logician, mathematician, pacifist, and philosopher and winner of 1950 Nobel Prize in Literature.  Best known for his work in mathematical logic and for his social and political campaigns, he tried to reduce mathematics to axioms, stater and eponym of Russell's paradox 1902 and co-wrote "Principia Mathematica" 1903.

1918 imprisoned for six months as a result of anti-war protests
1919 published Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy
1920 traveled to Russia and taught in Peking for a year
1922 divorced Alyx and married Dora Black
1927 opened experimental school with Dora
1931 became third Earl Russell
1935 divorced Dora
1936 married Patricia Helen Spence
1938 traveled to United States to teach at various universities until 1944
1940 appointment at City College New York revoked following public protests
1943 dismissed from Barnes Foundation in PA
1946 published The History of Western Philosophy, which is considered his greatest literary achievement
1949 awarded the Order of Merit
1950 awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature
1955 published Russell-Einstein Manifesto, calling for the curtailment of nuclear weapons
1957 prime organizer of the first Pugwash Conference, which brought together scientists concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons
1958 became the founding president of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament
1961 once again imprisoned, this time in connection with anti-nuclear protests
1970 died February 2 in Wales, age 97
